Description
What is a Triaxial blend?
A triaxial blend is a development technique where three basic glazes or ingredients are mixed in varying ratios to create a range of different glaze effects. At a basic level, the three ingredients could be typically a flux, such as a feldspar, a glass former, such as silica, and a refractory, such as kaolin (being the three fundamental components that make up a glaze). By systematically changing the ratios of these three ingredients and firing the resulting mixtures, we can observe the changes in glaze behaviour, and texture. This helps in gaining an understanding of how the different ingredients affect the final glaze.
