Course Focus:

These classes are designed to provide you with a comprehensive foundation in using the potter's wheel. It's an immersive experience focused exclusively on the skills and techniques essential for creating stunning wheel thrown pottery.

Commitment Requirement:

We emphasize that mastering the potter's wheel requires dedication and practice. During throwing exercises, you'll invest time and effort without immediate tangible results. However, fear not! While there are exercises to refine your skills, you'll also create functional pieces to take home and cherish.

Curriculum Highlights:

  • Clay Preparation: Learn the crucial steps of preparing clay, including wedging, mixing, and stacking, to ensure optimal workability and quality in your creations.
  • Centering Clay: Master the art of centering clay on the wheel, a fundamental skill essential for creating balanced and symmetrical forms.
  • Cylinder Exercises: Engage in cylinder exercises tailored to enhance your control and finesse in shaping clay, laying the groundwork for creating various vessel forms.
  • Bowls and Trimming: Explore the techniques of crafting bowls and refining their shape through trimming, achieving smooth edges and impeccable proportions.
  • Turning Tumblers into Cups with Handles: Delve into the process of transforming basic tumblers into elegant cups, complete with expertly crafted handles, adding functionality and aesthetic appeal to your creations.

Prerequisite:

While this class is tailored for beginners, we assume a basic understanding of pottery-making. We recommend completing a beginner hand-building class or acquiring some prior knowledge of working with clay. This ensures you're equipped with the foundational understanding necessary to fully immerse yourself in the wheel-throwing experience.
